JecHacks Hackathon — Liability Waiver, Assumption of Risk & Release Agreement
Event: JecHacks Hackathon
Organizers: JecHacks Organizing Committee ("the Organizers")
By signing below, the Participant (and Parent/Guardian, if the Participant is under the age of 18) acknowledges and agrees to the following terms and conditions:
1. Assumption of Risk
The Participant acknowledges that participation in JecHacks (the "Event") involves certain inherent risks, including but not limited to: physical injury, property damage or loss, exposure to communicable illness, fatigue, stress, allergic reactions, and risks associated with travel to and from the venue. The Participant voluntarily assumes full responsibility for any and all risks of illness, injury, loss, or damage that may arise from participation in the Event.
2. Release and Waiver of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Participant (and Parent/Guardian, if applicable) hereby releases, waives, discharges, and covenants not to sue the Organizers, their officers, agents, volunteers, sponsors, partners, and affiliated organizations (collectively, the "Released Parties") from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, or causes of action arising out of or related to any loss, damage, or injury—including death—that may be sustained by the Participant while participating in or traveling to/from the Event, whether caused by the negligence of the Released Parties or otherwise.
3. Medical Authorization
In the event of an emergency, the Participant authorizes the Organizers to secure and administer emergency medical treatment, including transportation to a medical facility if deemed necessary. The Participant (or Parent/Guardian) agrees to bear all costs of emergency medical treatment. The Organizers are not responsible for providing medical care or health insurance.
4. Personal Property
The Organizers are not responsible for the loss, theft, or damage of any personal property brought to the Event by the Participant.
5. Code of Conduct
The Participant agrees to abide by the JecHacks Code of Conduct at all times during the Event. The Organizers reserve the right to remove any Participant for violations, at their sole discretion, without refund or compensation.
6. Photo/Video/Media Release
The Participant grants the Organizers permission to photograph, film, and/or record the Participant during the Event and to use such media for promotional, educational, or informational purposes.
7. Intellectual Property
All projects, code, and materials created during the Event remain the intellectual property of their respective creators. However, the Participant grants the Organizers a non-exclusive license to showcase the project for promotional purposes.
8. Indemnification
The Participant agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Released Parties from and against any and all claims arising out of the Participant's attendance at or participation in the Event.
9. Governing Law
This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable therein.
10. Acknowledgement
The Participant acknowledges that they have read this Waiver in its entirety, fully understand its terms, and sign it freely and voluntarily.
